Record Your Old Vinyl 45s and LPs To The Computer © 2006

If the computer you have is not equipped with a sound card, one can be procured from a store which sells computer accessories. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the sound card on the computer. This is not hard, as most manufacturers provide excellent instructions to do this.

Software to record music to the computer is usually included with the sound card. It pays to make sure that this is the case before purchasing the card. If not, this software can also usually be purchased from a computer supply store, or reputable web sites also make such software available for download.

The upper photo at right shows the connection for the cable into the sound card. Your computer may be somewhat different than shown.

Speakers will enable you to hear the music as it is being recorded and also play the digital music through when playing it from your hard drive. These are widely available from electronics, computer and discount stores. They will plug into the speaker plug on the sound card of your computer.
