While you are recording vinyl music to your computer you can edit the properties of each digital file to allow
media playing programs, such as Windows Media Player, to sort your collection for you. If you are
using Windows XP, right click the music file with the cursor and mouse. Choose "Properties" from the
window which appears. Choose "Summary", then choose "Advanced". Several editable fields will appear. These fields are
listed below.
Artist
In this field you would list the name of the artist/s who recorded the title.
Album Title
Here you will place the name of the album the title was originally recorded on.
Year
This field is for listing the year the song was released.
Track Number
This is where you can record the order the song appeared on the original album. This is so you can
set up the media player to play the album in the original order the songs appeared on the album.
Otherwise, the computer will sort the songs alphabetically.
Genre
You can also organize digital music by type, for example you may use Rock, Jazz, Soul, or any number of
musical styles.
Lyrics
If the lyrics of the song are available and you wish to store them with the recording, they can be
placed in this field.
Title
This would be the title of the recording. This is the same as the file name you saved it as.
Comments
This is for any additional comments you wish to make about the recording, such as, this is the song
which was playing when you first met your wife or husband.
The photo on the right shows how the properties table should look. Just double click the "Value" field
and you can type in the information you wish to record.
Recording information in these fields will allow your media player to sort your digital music collection any
way you wish, and you can change the way the collection is sorted quickly at any time. The collection
may be sorted by artist, album, year of release, and genre. You can set up play lists which contain
your favorite songs, and the play lists can be changed anytime you want to add or delete
recordings.
Music recorded on the computer from vinyl 45's and LP's will provide you with the most versatile form
of music available today. While you record your collection to the computer, it is a great help to
edit the music as you progress. This will help eliminate annoying skips and scratches that have
appeared on the original vinyl recordings and allow a media player to organize your collection digital
music quickly once you have it recorded and ready to play.
