Transferring Music From the Computer to an MP3 Player © 2006

Transferring music from a computer to an MP3 player is easy to do. The only equipment needed to make the transfer is a cable with a mini-B plug on one end and a standard USB connection on the other. This type of cable is commonly available from computer stores and other shops which sell computer accessories.

To transfer music from the computer to the MP3 player, simply plug the mini-B connector into the MP3 player, and then plug the other end of the cable into any USB plug in on the computer. A window should open on the screen. You will be given three choices. You can synchronize the device using Windows Media Player, open the device using Windows Explorer, or take no action. Choose to open the device using Windows Explorer.

Once Windows Explorer is open an MP3 player icon should be visible in the menu. Double click the icon and the file will open. All you need to do next is open the folder on your computer which has you music files in it. To find this, click the "folders" icon at the top of the screen. Now click "My Documents". Then look for the "My Music" folder. The file folders for your music should be visible. Now you can copy and paste the audio files to the MP3 player. You can do them one at a time, or choose several using the "Control" and "Alt" keys. Just hold these two keys down simultaneously and choose songs with the mouse and cursor. Once you have chosen, right click one of the selections, and choose "Copy". Then scroll down and find the folder in the MP3 Player which holds the music. Place the curser on this folder and right click. Choose "Paste". The music will be transferred to your MP3 player fairly quickly. You can repeat this until the MP3 player is full. NOTE: Do not choose the option "Cut" or you will delete the music from the computer.

After you have listened to all the selections on the MP3 player and want to replace them, you can. Connect the MP3 player to the computer again and open Windows Explorer. Go to the music folder on the MP3 player. Using the mouse and cursor, choose the first song in the folder. Scroll down to the end. Holding the "Control" and "Shift" keys simultaneously, select the final song in the folder. All of the songs in the folder should now be highlighted. Hit the "Delete" key. This will delete all the selections in the folder. Now you can choose more songs and transfer them from your computer using the process described earlier.

You should now double click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the bottom right of the computer screen. The icon should have a green arrow pointing to the left above a small rectangular box. Hold the cursor above it without clicking it. The words "Safely Remove Hardware" should appear. Double click the icon. Stop the USB device and remove the MP3 Player from the computer.

Transferring music from the computer to an MP3 player adds versatility any music collection. You can now take your music collection on the road with you, to the beach, or anywhere else you desire.
